Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the official mascot of OggCamp, the Ogg! I came up with this little fella because we needed something to decorate the merchandise for the event and I think mascots are cool.
As I’ve already established with Dan, Oggs live on a steady diet of puffles, chips and of course, beer. They usually spend their day listening to podcasts, mostly UUPC and Linux Outlaws, and generally looking cool. They are born on the mysterious island of Ardour (somewhere off the coast off France) and when they die, they go to Ogg heaven which they call The Vorbis. You will see lots of these little guys around OggCamp this year, I think.
When I first send the design for this to the OggCamp team, popey had the great idea that we should encourage people to make one of these for themselves. Now, I very much suck at crafting but I can see how an Ogg would make a mighty fine pillow! The design is of course licensed CC BY-SA 3.0 like all my other work so feel to have a go1 if you feel like it.
I am currently in the process of designing shirts and mugs for OggCamp which will all feature our new mascot, so I hope you like him (or her, hard to say, really…).
- For a pillow design, you’d probably best leave the headphones off, though… ↩

All I need it sewing machine, felt, embroidery needle and threads and compass. I think it is very cute!
Hehehe…. If I had even one of these items, I’d give them to you. ;)
^Hehe luckily I happen to own all those things (although unfortunately in different location where I am atm).
Wow, nice logo! I have an advertising idea, I’m sure the people who are able to attend would stick a picture of him like an Easter egg on their sites with a link back to oggcamp.
So corenominal has challenged me to make one & take it to OggCamp, and make one, I shall! I agree with Hanna, these will be so easy to make, and that pattern would be adaptable to make varying sizes. Well done to the OggCamp team on this merchandising genius! :-)
Wow… That would be so awesome… If you make a pattern, send it to me and I’ll stick it up on the OggCamp site. Do you want a version sans headphones? :)
@fab – Looks great and I love the back story for the characters :D
@bobobex – I am useless at sewing but might make a good pin cushion perhaps. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. I’m sure it’ll be cool!
Is it available in SVG? and what’s the licensing?
Do you have an svg of him?
And he is a cube right? :)
/me hatches plan
I have an SVG version. Not ready to put that out there, though, since we haven’t nailed down the merchandise for OggCamp yet. Licensing is CC BY-SA 3.0 as it says in the article.
And yes, he/she is a cube. ;)
If you are going to have the Ogg machine embroidered on any of your gear and need to have it digitized (which means have the art interpreted and the stitches semi-manually plotted so that the embroidery machine can do it’s thing) contact me. I might just be willing to donate the digitized file to the cause. I’m an open-source loving embroidery professional. :)
Hey, Erich!
Thanks for the offer. As far as I know, we are currently only planning printed stuff for the OggCamp merch but I will let you know whenever embroidery should come up. :)
